Athletics - Westlake Lutheran Academy

The Westlake Lutheran Dance HGTA Dance Program is based on Modern/Contemporary technique with an emphasis in movement quality and progression. Even though there are some ballet concepts introduced, such as stretching through the feet, the position of the legs, and usage of terminology, it’s based in modern/contemporary. Students will learn coordination to travel across the floor using specific steps such as chasses, leaps, and turns. They will then apply this in center combinations and recital performances.

The dance ministry teams are determined by audition only, currently only offered for middle & high school students. They learn choreography to present both at school and in the community. Team members will perform at chapels, churches, festivals, and local dance competitions, spreading the good news!

Early Childhood Dance

The early childhood program is still based in modern/contemporary but focuses mostly on building gross motor skills and applying them in class. Such as we learn to gallop across the floor, but now can we alternate the foot that is in front as we gallop. We also do movement critical thinking such as, there is a mat and a chair in front of us, how can we get across the floor? Sometimes they go over the mat by crawling, rolling, or even jumping and through the chair by going over, around, or even under. There’s no wrong answer!
