GLC Academy

The GLC academy is a four year rigorous journey that allows students to pursue and develop grit and leadership skills that prepare them for success today, tomorrow, and eternity. Through this academy, students will gain hands-on exposure to careers from a variety of highly successful individuals to help identify career interests. They will engage in professional conversations, serve the community, and learn how to write meaningfully about their experiences.

2025-26: The inaugural freshman class began the GLC academy in August of 2025. This year's, students are learning how to professionally communicate, learn interviewing skills, research fields, and attend visits with professionals around the city.

Students successfully completing the requirements of the GLC Academy will be awarded an Honors Certificate and signified at graduation with a distinctive cord. Additionally, students will be able to include their participation in the academy on their resume for college applications and write effectively about their experiences in application essays.

Leadership is the ability to guide and influence others to achieve shared goals. Great Leaders possess GRIT and other important Leadership Characteristics. Some of the most important Leadership Characteristics include effective Communication, Integrity, Decision Making, Empathy,Trust

Leadership skills will be taught both in the classroom and through service. By providing practical and hands-on experiences, students will be able to make decisions, effectively communicate with leaders in our city, and self-reflect on their interactions. Additionally, high school students in the GLC academy will have the opportunity to show their skills to the rising students of our school.

How Will Careers be Incorporated into GLC Academy?

During their four years of high school, students will have the opportunity to learn from highly successful people in major career fields across Houston. Through career visits, students will begin to identify their own career interests while hearing personal stories of GRIT and leadership from professionals that have worked their way to success. Professionals will also share the impact faith has had in their lives and how they serve and give back to others. As students move through the academy, they will participate in shadowing to get a true understanding of a field of interest.. Furthermore, students will document their experience and write informational essays on what they’ve learned.
